Our Story
Property History
The Legacy Inn, in Luray VA, is nestled on 2½ acres of 60 year old chestnut, maple and poplar trees. Our property, in the heart of Luray, Virginia is less than a mile to the world famous Luray Caverns and ten minutes from Skyline Drive in the Shenandoah National Park.
This historic Shenandoah Valley property was built in 1805 by the Peter Ruffner family. This historical site was originally used as a tavern and way-station for travelers through Thornton's Gap. The original house faced south towards stage coach road. Today, after serving as a private home and boarding house, the Goshen House has been transformed into a bed and breakfast true to Virginian elegance. It was operated as The Goshen House Bed & Breakfast from 2004 until 2008 .
Origin of the Legacy
The property was purchased in 2022 by three friends eager to create a space in the Shenandoah Valley for friends and family to gather. The friends had all spent time living in Virginia (two are UVA grads!) and Washington DC, and recognized an opportunity for a modern B&B experience driving distance from the Capitol for getaways and events. The property has undergone significant renovations throughout 2022 and 2023 and the owners and management team from Patriot Family Homes are excited to share the property with you and your families.
When starting this venture in a historic town like Luray, and in a historic area of the nation like the Shenandoah Valley, we here at PFH were faced with the legacy of those who have inhabited this area for generations. History is something that is contained and displayed within the area, but legacy is shown through the people that inhibit the land. When working with the wonderful people in the area as we began to shape our vision for this Inn, we came to the realization that this Inn is not a reflection of our legacy, but yours. It is for this reason that we are opening it up to events like weddings as well as acting as an inn for vacationers; because, after all, our legacy means nothing if it does not have an impact on yours.
About Patriot Family Homes
Patriot Family Homes was founded by Joseph & Rachel Riley. In late 2017, Joe was deployed as a Captain in the Army to Afghanistan and the Rileys began renting their home near Fort Benning, GA for short term stays and discovered a need for temporary housing near military bases. It was with this realization that Patriot Family Homes was formed.
Since then we’ve expanded to over 40 markets, and assembled a first class team of veterans and military spouses to operate our properties.
Newest Addition to the Family
PFH currently manages over 500 short-term rental properties throughout the Southeast United States. Our team has learned alot from hosting over 100,000 guests across 30,000 reservations. We are eager to share our hospitality with you here in the heart of Luray.
